A tribute by friend Josie Williams 12th December 2019

Mike was a visionary well ahead his time whose only wish was to lead his people, dyslexics, to the promised land, a phrase he often used. He helped people see their disabilities as abilities through the powerful medium of film and under the title of Ants In Yer Pants I helped him deliver these issues. He also lectured widely on the subject and helped develop programmes to assess and aid with learning strategies. Mike was at his best when he was delivering in the classroom and irespective of age or ability he engaged and made people feel special. He was a very kind man and a family friend of 20 years standing who would go out of his way to help you. I remember on one occasion he came to our aid when a family trip to Ireland went wrong and Rynair wouldn't let us through the the gate ( we were 5 mins late), so we had to buy new air tickets and return to London whilst our car was parked in Bristol! He came all the way from Marlborough picked us up, dropped me and the boys home and went on with my husband Victor to Bristol airport to pick up our car. Mike wouldn't take a penny towards petrol, so I bought him a lurcher puppy with my first months wages when I was community arts development officer at Commonweal School; one good turn deserves another! Mike had a passion for painting and exhibited at various locations around the world including Singapore. He had a love of painting birds, especially white doves as a symbol of global unity and peace. My heart goes out to his ex wife Liz Juggins, their children and his current partner Annie Hyde of Dawlish, at this very sad time, the world will be a much duller place without him RIP my friend.
